The Camry benefited from a complete overhaul for 2007, starting with a new, airy interior and continuing with more powerful engines, more transmission choices and increased fuel efficiency. Yet the hallmark of this sixth-generation Camry is Toyota's effort to shake the stodgy, plain reputation the car had developed in some circles. The Camry's aerodynamic styling shows more vitality than we've come to expect from a car many have labeled, and not necessarily in unkind fashion, as Japan's Buick .
Camry has always been a conservatively-styled car, and that's not changing in 2007. Toyota engineers and designers follow a strategy that refuses to take continued success for granted. Toyota chose to expand the very definition of Camry, and in the process create a new benchmark for sedans. Designers rethought every aspect of the Camry from its chassis to its body, interior, accessories and drive-train.
This new Camry's shape is athletic, modern, with a long, high-visibility cabin, set on a horizontal underbody. The wheelbase is now longer than before, and track is wider, with the wheels pushed toward the extremes of each of the car's four corners. Gone are the 15-inch wheels, the all new Camry will ride on 16-inch wheels of either steel or aluminum in order to ensure brake- heat dissipation.
Brake discs were also enlarged for improved feel, and stopping power. Additionally, seat-side length was increased to accommodate comfortable driving positions for larger passengers and drivers. Available rear leg-room now measures 38.3 inches, from 37.8'' in the previous generation Camry.
