Laser Refractive Surgery

LASIK (Laser in-Situ Keratomileusis) is the latest and most effective laser eye treatment, and takes only minutes to correct defect in both eyes. It is a revolutionary new treatment which offers hope to millions of people forced to wear contact lenses or glasses because of poor eyesight. After a few drops of local anesthetic are administered to the eye, the eyelids are held wide open to ensure there is no interference with the laser. Then with a precise automated instrument, the ophthalmic surgeon creates a thin flap on the surface of the cornea. This is then lifted gently and the laser which is pre-programmed reshapes the inner cornea and refocuses the eyes. The pulse of the laser never last more than 60 seconds and only affects the cornea. The flap then holds itself in place after it is repositioned and healing takes place normally. No stitches are needed.
